Our very own President Brian Thornton has his story, Counting Coup, as the lead story in the Bouchercon issue of Alfred Hitchcock Mystery Magazine! Patricia Harrington, MWA NW board member and treasurer, has had a busy year. Her author essay, Lesson Learned: Never Say Never, was in the Summer Issue of Mystery Readers International Journal, a quarterly theme journal for mystery writers. The summer issue focused on "mysteries of the Far East. She also has a story in the anthology EX-Factor, which will be released in October 2006 by Koboca Publishing. And lastly, Patricia also had a poem, Above My Desk, published at the writer's ezine LongStoryShort. Way to go Patricia! Kat Richardson's first novel, Greywalker, was released October 3rd to very encouraging reviews. Congratulations Kat! New member Michael Donnelly released his first San Juan Island Mystery False Harbor in October. Also, Awakening Curry Buckle, his middle-grade mystery/adventure released a year ago has been nominated for an ALA Popular Paperbacks for Young Adults booklist and for the Sasquatch booklist. Welcome to MWA NW and congratulations Michael! Susanne Severeid's The Death of Milly Mahoney received second place, 2006 Literary Award for Published Fiction, from the Arizona Authors Association in Phoenix. Susanne was also recently signed by agent Frank Weimann of The Literary Group in New York. Congratulations to Clyde Ford for his recent receipt of the 2006 Hurston/Wright Award for fiction writing. You can read the entire story here. This year Peg Kehret won five state children's book awards and traveled to accept all of them. Spy Cat won the So. Dakota Prairie Pasque Award; Escaping the Giant Wave won the Iowa Children's Choice Award, the Nebraska Golden Sower Award, the Nevada Young Reader Award, and the Florida Sunshine Award. All of these awards are voted on by children, from a list recommended by school librarians. |
